Social Care Internship

Contract Details: 1-year Fixed Term Social Care Internship. 20 hours per week on average over a 4-week rolling roster that includes weekends and 'sleep-overs'.
Location: Galway City
Salary: National minimum wage €12.70 per hour

Job Summary
The Social Care Intern will work as part of a staff team gaining a full understanding of working in a social care setting, supporting vulnerable clients. They will act as a full member of the team, gaining practical experience to support their ongoing education, by supporting clients to develop independent living skills and social connections in the community and in turn facilitating the practical application of academic/formal learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Clients - Support clients from all backgrounds and experiences, in a calm, trauma informed, harm-reduction approach to implement client support plans that maximise their health, self-care, education, community engagement, home management skills, and their overall well-being with the goal of independent living.
- Compliance - Stay compliant with all organisation policies, stay up to date on mandatory training, participate in routine maintenance, inspections and cleaning in line with health and safety standards.
- Service Delivery - Systematically log and record all interventions with and behalf of clients on relevant systems, work in an organised and efficient manner with clear communication within the team to deliver high-quality professional service.
- General - Willingness to adapt as needed to support client and service needs.
- Values - Demonstrate the Galway Simon Community values compassion, community and collaboration.

Requirements
- Qualification - Attending or Completed a minimum FETAC Level 5 in Care or relevant discipline.
- Ethos - Interest in pursuing formal social care qualifications.
Desirable
- Driving - Valid, full driver’s licence.
